In the YMMC Woodwind Ensemble, students work in small groups to prepare for chamber music performances in the community, and at the YMMC spring concert. The ensemble uses flexible instrumentation to allow students to perform anything from duos to woodwind quintets, to large woodwind ensemble compositions.
Weekly rehearsals help students to work on techniques specific to woodwind playing, as well as address balance, blend, style, and other topics not able to be covered in full orchestra rehearsals. Students work with YMM woodwind coach Erin Irvine. Erin is currently Principal Bassoon of the Santa Cruz Symphony, and teaches bassoon at UC Santa Cruz.
All woodwind students enrolled in YMMC orchestra are eligible - and encouraged - to participate in the Woodwind Ensemble. There is no additional fee for participation.
